Why Books?

I think writing is important because people’s minds can only hold so much information in them. If we had to store all of that stuff in our heads, we’d need to grow bigger brains. Or maybe not. Maybe I just say this to make the point that ideas can’t always be worked out only in our minds. It’s impossible. We have to write things down or we’ll forget them. Can you imagine trying to remember all the numbers in the phone book? Or if you had to memorize the story from the book “Anna Karenina” because Tolstoy hadn’t taken the time to write down the words? It would be terrible.  The ideas in his books could never be shared so easily and could never have been so poignantly articulated. Thank goodness for books.
